Hizkuntzaren erabilera genero-estereotipoak iraunarazteko tresna gisa: hizkuntzaren abstrakzioaren ondorioak
Abstract
Research on linguistic intergroup bias indicates that strategic language use serves the maintenance of stereotypes and prejudice. In order to examine the role that language use plays —linguistic abstraction— on the persistence of gender stereotypes two studies were conducted. In the first study, gender-stereotypes were manipulated by presenting gender-stereotype keyword combinations (gender- personality trait). In the second study, pictures representing gender-roles at home and work contexts were manipulated. The results showed that stereotype congruent information was described more abstractly than stereotype incongruent information, being the kind of structural relation between men and women a meaningful element in language use. On the basis of these results, the implications that language use has on the confirmation and maintenance of gender stereotypes are discussed, considering social inequality between women and men.Downloads
