Euskal gatazka, prentsaren portaera eta herritarren iritzia (1998-2001)

Abstract

This article tries to explain the principal conclusions obtained from a research work carried out in the Basque Countr  over the last three years by a large team of researches directed by two professor at the EHU-UPV. It also summarizes the informative behaviour, as well as the editorials, of the main daily newspapers published both in Spain and in the Basque Country (eleven in total) during the period of time comprising the new political situation originated after the cease fire declared by ETA in September 1998. This study is complemented by the results extracted from a survey done by CIES (3,000 phone surveys throughout the Spanish State). This survey analysed the influence of the media in public opinion trying to obtain some conclusions about the perception that citizens have of the Basque conflict.
