Abstract

The purpose of this inquiry was to examine the meaning and the effects of physical activity on imprisoned women. Symbolic interaction has been the core idea of the methodo- logy and the experiences of five ex-convict women from Gipuzkoa and Araba in 2014, have been gathered and analyzed by using the data they provided in a thorough interview. The out- put of this inquiry shows that practicing physical activity is important for incarcerated women and that it significantly affects many different levels; for instance, physical activity helped these women fill the time with tasks, flee from the routine of prison or it meant a support to go on.
