Abstract

Basque language and Basque community are unknown and intentionally put in a corner in our everyday written media. Spanish media does not inform to its audience about the details of this little but important part of the society, which is the Basque people.

This article analyses the way written Spanish media use the Basque language, the frequency of the use and what it is used for. It results symptomatic to appreciate how little and poor space Spanish media offers to Basque language. This resultant mediatic island can only be explained from a political blindness and a social isolation spiral; but not from a cohabitation development line, nor linguistic or cultural justice’s point of view.
