Abstract

This article is about the treatment of the French parliamentary elections in 1914 and the campaign in the Northern Basque Country by the Basque newspaper Eskualduna. The particularity of this election campaign was that it was the first campaign of the celebrated deputy Jean Ibarnegarai. This study analyzes, by qualitative contents analysis, if the message of this newspaper was partisan and if the journalists wrote more propaganda than journalism. Eskualduna had campaigned against the republican candidates, particularly about the religious theme, and requested the vote for Jean Ibarnegarai.
