Abstract

This article discusses the most recent statistics on old working women and recently retired senior women. The gap between male and female employment rates is narrowing. However, employment rates among women over 55 are lower than their male counterparts´. Bearing this in mind, the characteristics and effects of retirement were analysed from the perspective of masculinity. Taking into account the social changes occurring within our society, women are expected to join the labour market in increasing numbers. The aim of this work is to describe the latest statistical data on working women approaching retirement age in order to fully research their post-retirement situation.
