Abstract

According to Bernard Schmitt money and production form a single reality. People think the ecu (European Currency Unit) does exist. In fact, however, the ecu is an unit of account. Following Schmitt’s works, the unit of account and the unit of payment are differentiated. Next, it is explained how the unit of account can become a unit of payment. Lastly, the ecu’s functions are cleared.
