Abstract

The aging population is increasing, leading to higher healthcare costs and social burdens. Therefore, intervention strategies are needed to improve the health and functionality of older adults. In this regard, multi-component physical activity programs are particularly recommended for institutionalized elderly individuals. Thus, an eight-week program was conducted in a residential facility to enhance strength, balance, and cardiovascular endurance. Nine participants, with an average age of 82.7 ± 7.1 years (seven women and two men), took part in the program. Before and after the intervention, several tests were conducted: the dynamometer test, Time Up and Go (TUG) and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). In terms of mean, there were improvements in two tests; TUG (PRE; 17.54 ± 6.63 and POST; 16.74 ± 5.96) and SPPB (PRE; 7.77 ± 2.58 and POST; 10.00 ± 1.00). However, in Handgrip no improvements were achieved (PRE; 17.24 ± 6.87 and POST; 15.21 ± 5.96).
