Basque emigrants were able to create so many different types of institutions in the countries and regions the settled. The most known of then are, without any doubt, the kind of institution usually named as “euskal etxeak” or “Basque clubs”, in which they are usually merged objectives of mutual aid and folklore. Nonetheless, there are also other kind of less known institutions implemented by emigrants. We will focus in these centered upon providing education to the descendents of Basque emigrants, of which we can find several examples from the late 17th century on. This “Basque colleges”, besides provinding practical and useful knowledge for the kids, were also used to transmit the Basque culture and language.Downloads
