Abstract
The process initiated in Bologna, and the establishment of the ECTS credits system, involves large and significant changes in the universities of Euskal Herria (Basque country). The new credits system, besides promoting the mobility of students, increases studentsÕ academic activities.
In relation to the teaching staff, the new ECTS credits system enlarges the work load compels to create new figures of teaching staff. In this new situation, Basque professors are impelled to consider the risks that these changes imply for teaching in Basque language. Nevertheless, the European Space of Higher Education plays a relevant role in facilitating agreement a joint development in the Universities of the Basque Country and increasing cohesion, in the Universities of the Basque Country.
