Abstract

How should we analyse the relationship between religion and politics in contemporary Southern Europe? In order to go beyond narrow visions of secularization, political scientists could choose between (at least) six methodological options: (1) Churches and political regimes; (2) religion and political behaviour (mainly in the electoral field); (3) Churches and public policies, especially in the field of health, social services and education; (4) the government of the Church; (5) the influence of religion on ethics; (6) political ideologies as secular or civil religions.
