The aim of this study, carried out within the framework of an extensive research about disturbances of discourse in schizophrenia, was to compare schizophrenic subjects with normal subjects in several psycholinguistic indices which are meant to operationalize the macrostructure or global coherence of discourse that subjects show in their verbalproductions. The discourses of 10 schizophrenic patients were compared with those produced by 11 matched controls. The task done twice by the subjects consisted of telling a story previously heard to the interviewer. We found differences statistically significant between schizophrenic subjects and control subjects. Furthermore, the differences remained 9 months later when the task was repeated.Key words: schizophrenia, discourse, psycholinguistic measures.Downloads
