Abstract

This study has analysed Basque language content about food across four social media platforms: X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. To do so, 16 hashtags related to healthy eating, body perception, and nutrition debates were identified. The results show that Twitter and Instagram were the most prominent communities for Basque-language conversations about food. In contrast, content on this topic in Basque was found to be very limited on TikTok and YouTube. In conclusion, Basque-language content on food in social media is limited. Nevertheless, communities have emerged on Twitter and Instagram. Greater promotion of the Basque language on social media is needed, especially to encourage the creation and consumption of content in Basque among young people.
