Detection and intervention of dyslexia in Primary Education

Dyslexia is one of the learning disorders that arise most frequently in Primary Education, and to avoid its implications in both children´s academic and personal lives, it is advisable to identify and treat it as soon as possible. Therefore, this article had two main objectives: on the one hand, to explain what dyslexia is, to contextualize it, and to offer identification criteria, using updated information. On the other hand, to put forward the main and most effective methods and strategies currently used for dyslexia intervention, as well as other general and important aspects to be taken into account by teachers. Throughout the article, other relevant points are developed, such as the types of dyslexia and its characteristics, the specific difficulties that dyslexia provokes, and the effects it can have in different areas. Finally, it is emphasized that in order to treat dyslexia in a successful way, it is necessary to take into account the multiple dimensions involved in the disorder and to involve the different agents that are part of the school community.
