Abstract

The general aim of this paper is to analyze the contribution that social innovation makes to the local economic development. We will specifically study how interaction among actors and collective action affect in local development processes. First of all, we define and delimit the broad concept of social innovation from the local development perspective. The community-based social innovation stresses the importance of social and institucional capital and relational capital and, therefore, approaches social innovation to the concept of human development. Social innovation puts at the center of his strategy the transformation and innovation of local governance pattern. This means also that social innovation advocates for the renewal of functions of public institutions. Then we analyze the reality and the foundation of socially innovative territories
