Abstract

Economic valuation of environmental goods and services apparently seems to be an useful evaluation tool, particularly within contexts in which Natural Protected Areas (NPA) policy gains increasing relevance. Despite economic valuation of NPA has an important tradition empirical applications undertaken in the Basque Country are quite recent. This paper completes a literature review of them. The analysis undertaken reveals great differences on results due to economic valuation is deeply dependent on both environmental goods defined and methods employed. Furthermore, when a NPA is declared and developed the fact of considering different sort of reasons other than just economic ones is highlighted.
