Abstract

As the vizcain industry started coming up in the 50es, housing for emigrants became a very serious problem. As a result, ilegal self-built shanty towns appeared in most of the foothills around the city very fast and spontaneusly. There wasn´t any basic service and living conditions were really laborious. The state toke the first steps to eradicate it at the beginning of the 60 decade. The most important action was building Otxarkoaga. Nowadays most of this areas have disapeared, althougt some of them are still alive (Masustegi, Buia…).
