Abstract

Everybody condemned the brave behaviour or the Spanish judge when in a so violent way he jailed and tortured its managers. People react to this closing of the national newspaper in Basque as if they had touched their most sensitive point. Anyway the initial atmosphere was not that united, and, this article explains the beginings of Euskaldunon Egunkaria, with a long and conflictive pregnancy, in order to a better understanding of the most recent reactions, to understand where we came from and not to forget where we go. At the same time, the author greets with hope the new paper Berria, the direct heir of Euskaldunon Egunkaria, the one that will keep both its first breathe and its promoter bellows, and in a very special way all the people who made possible its existence.
