Abstract

How represents and accounts people the Basque culture? Which are the social representations of Basque culture? Two are the principal arguments of people’s explanation about the Basque culture: the Basque language and the autochthony. But, which is the genesis of this representation? And what is the relationship between culture and identity in the Basque Country? The culture production, the culture in general, has been a very important political and identity function in the modern era, however, for some authors the culture has lost the value which it possessed. The nature of the culture production has been modified in contemporary society. Which is the function and the performance of the Basque culture production in the High Modernity? How will the Basque culture production in the globalized world of identity consumption compete? The aim of this article is to present some questions and reflections about the Basque culture production in the High Modernity.
