Abstract

Several governments used Alexander the Great\'s figure in political debates in the XXth century. Taking into account this myth\'s source and spreading, this paper analyzes which of Alexander\'s feats and features have been taken as symbols. There exists nowadays a competition among several governments (Greece, Tadjikistan, Fyrom...) to consider Alexander the Great\'s figure as part of their patrimony, and all of them select features that best fit their own political situation.
