Abstract

This report analyses the news about Basque prisoners appeared in the papers Diario de Navarra and Diario de Noticias, both from Navarre, in 1998 and 1999. This topic has not been thoroughly treated and the organisations that work in favour of the rights of prisoners and their relatives are not considered as information sources. The news about this subject have been treated distantly. Diario de Navarra often tries to create an opinion in spite of giving exact information. However, there is also a positive treatment in both newspapers, maybe due to the political situation in that moment.
