Abstract

In this work, we will see what fundamental is choosing adequate diets. Last decades, in the area of learning , there have been many studies demostrating that animals can show preferences for flavors. This phenomenon has been termed flavor preference learning. Firstly, we present some research that have been made about the main strategies used by animals to choosing diets. Next, we examine the mechanisms for the social transmission of adquired food preferences from adult to weanling rats. After that, we analyze the cognitive and social processes that permit one adult rat to influence another’s selection of foods. Finally, we review the most important mechanisms that have been proposed to explain that phenomenon.
