Abstract

This research work analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on Basque musicians. Lockdowns and other restrictions during pandemic (schedules, capacity restrains) have hurt workers involved in arts and culture related sectors, musicians among them. During May and July 2021, a survey was conducted among Basque musicians belonging to MUSIAKRI association. This survey contained questions regarding the impact of COVID-19 on their music related activities and income. The survey also contained questions regarding future expectations. The results of the survey show that COVID-19 had a very negative impact in both music related activity and income. Restraints on music activity have deeply hurt musicians´ income. This impact has been homogeneous among different types of musicians. Nevertheless, we found that expectations regarding future and life satisfaction are strongly conditioned by musicians´  general characteristics.
