In the first part of this paper we describe the evolution of Translation Studies as a discipline: we recall the main different points of view and translation theories and we explain in which context the cultural and sociological turn have occurred in order to overcome some aspects of the systemic theories.
In the second part of the paper, we focus on the sociological turn in Translation Studies: we recall the main research-trends, projects and different aspects considered in the area.
Finally, we try to show why and how is the sociology of translation useful to study Basque translation history, based on Ibarluzea 2017 doctoral research. Few works have been done in the area of Basque translation studies folowing the sociology of translation and we try to make visible some posible research topics.
