Abstract

The aim of this communication is to emphasize the need to promote evidence based policy in the sport system trough the capacity building to evaluate and learn of local institutions. In this sense, it seems that sport has an ambivalent role in our societies because it goes from being a useful tool to a useless tool depending on socio-economic contingencies (see the reduction in its budgets). Sport may not solve all problems, but we are sure that sport can play an important role in the development of any society strategic dimensions such as health, integration, etc.. The question is whether or not we are able to measure the real contribution that sport makes to these dimensions. In short, we believe it is vital to clarify the meaning we give to the sports policy since, what is certain is that failure to take seriously its governance, we have much to lose
