Julio Medem and his universe “The case of the films Caótica Ana and Room in Rome”

The aim of this article is to analyze Caótica Ana and Room in Rome, linking these two films with Medem’s other works. The current work studies the particular style of this film- maker to reveal his essence and discover what the techniques and narrative devices he used are. In order to make this possible, the symbols and patterns which are continuously repeated in his films (duality, the particular relation between life and dead or sky and ground, circularity, the importance of middle, lack of fixed identity, flight, love etc.) are studied, and found and analyzed them in Caótica Ana and Room in Rome films. Taking into acount the importance of the image, the message of these two films through their form have been examined. We conclude that the most important points to consider are the duality and circularity, because these points are what make the whole narrative flowDownloads
