Emakumeen boteretzea: saiaketak eta zailtasunak

Abstract

The Fourth World Conference on Woman that took place in Beijing in 1995 recommended women’s empowerment as a main strategy to be used by governments to achieve equality between women and men . The use of empowerment has been therefore generalised all over the world and it is used in different ways and in different contexts. In this essay, first, we are approaching the concept of empowerment in a theoretical level, going into the different meanings and explanations of the concept. Secondly, we are analyzing this concept in the context of the initiatives proposed by main Basque institutions. For this last aim, we will aproach the IV Programme on Equality of the Basque Institute for Women´s issues.
