The oscillation of the two wheels on an axle of a rail vehicle in opposite directions is called torsional vibration. To ensure the integrity of the axle, it is essential to identify and control this oscillation, making experimental testing for the homologation of torsional vibrations on the axle indispensable. However, the physical phenomenon is complex and not fully identified in the literature. Therefore, the critical extreme condition with the highest torsional moment is not known, making it impossible to predict the axle's design and the strategy for homologation tests in advance. Consequently, a methodology has been developed to predict the torsional moment during the design phase, which can optimize the design of axle-wheel systems and reduce homologation tests.
