Abstract

This study examines the impact of soccer match start time on referees’ perceived exertion. Analyzing 23 football matches, results show that officiating in the morning leads to a higher perceived effort in both halves and throughout the entire match. However, the match's start time had no significant impact on referees’ psychophysical well-being. Considering that morning matches may involve a higher physical load, it would be interesting to analyze the influence of match start time in physical load using objective variables such as heart rate or GPS-based physical variables. This research provides valuable insights for optimizing referees' training strategies.
