Abstract

In this work, two commercial and bio-based monomers were copolymerized by emulsion polymerization, namely isobornyl and 2-octyl acrylate, on the way to developing sustainable coatings. Particle size, global, and instantaneous conversions of the polymerization reaction were analyzed. Also, the thermal properties and water absorption of the obtained polymer and the properties of the petroleum-derived MMA/BA polymer were compared. The results obtained show that it is possible to develop bio-based coatings, competitive with products on the market.
