Abstract

The use of nanoparticles as a controlled release platform is a field of research of great interest. This work optimizes the synthesis of different nanoparticles with quaternary ammonium derivatives obtained by controlling the functionalization degree of chitosan. These particles have improved properties, including a greater mucoadhesion to biological tissues. Nanoparticles of 100-300nm are obtained, both empty and loaded with active ingredients using chitosan and its derivatives. In particular, the potential of these nanoparticles in the treatment of eye diseases is analized by investigating the encapsulated ectoine release profile.
