Abstract

The inorganic particles used in waterborne coatings tend to aggregate, decreasing their efficiency. For that reason, different strategies were developed in the industry. However, the use of conventional pigment dispersants can be deleterious for some applications due to their hydrophilicity. Because of that, our objective is to overcome the drawbacks of conventional pigment stabilizers by using functionalized polymer particles. In addition, to improve the spacing of pigments the use of polymer particles with localized functionalization was proposed. Moreover, the use of comb-like copolymers was assessed as pigment dispersants and spacers.
