During a brucellosis bacteriological survey three strains were isolated from lymph nodes of Algerian cows. Classical diagnostic tools did not attribute the isolates to any known species. On the basis of genome analyses the isolates were almost identical and clearly grouped in the genus Pseudochrobactrum, a genus phylogenetically very close to Brucella, a zoonotic bacteria able to infect different mammals. Genomic, physiological and biochemical data supported that these organisms represent a novel species of the genus Pseudochrobactrum, for which the name Pseudochrobactrum algeriensis sp. is proposed. The new 16S-PsO-F/R pair of primers is based on 16S rRNA gene and specifically detects all the Pseudochrobactrum species.
