Abstract

The Basque educational community is facing a historic moment. After several months of
negotiation, a new educational act that will regulate the whole educational system of the Basque
Autonomous Community is about to be enacted. Throughout this process, a public debate on the educational system has been sparked and numerous contributions to it have been reported in the Basque press. The aim of this study is to analyze how these contributions have affected the debate on the educational system, through a documentary analysis of the Basque press. Segregation, school ownership and the Basque language have had the greatest prominence, but it has been detected that the scarce depth and proposal of what has been dealt with, has hampered the debate.
