The increased antibiotic contamination in the environment and the associated problems, such as the emergence of resistance, pose the necessity of developing new analytical methodologies to quantify antibiotics and their degradation products in order to broaden the knowledge about where and how resistance occurs. In this work, analytical methods for the simultaneous analysis of twentyfour antibiotics, three antifungals and their degradation products were developed in vegetables, soil:compost mixtures, animal manure and Eisenia foetida earthworms. The calculated limits of quantification were low enough to allow the detection of antibiotics in the different environmental compartments, demonstrating their accumulation in the food-chain.
