Abstract

Liver cancer was the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in 2020. In the last years, radioembolization, an intraarterial transcatheter treatment, has been studied using computational fluid dynamics. In this work, the authors study the influence of the injection velocity on the microsphere concentration in blood. Three simulations were run and results showed that the shape of the curve of the temporal microsphere concentration in blood is independent of the injection velocity, but the amplitude of the curve depends of the injection velocity. This may allow us to be closer to designing patient-specific treatments.
