Alcohol consumption during adolescence impairs the endocannabinoid system of the hippocampus and, therefore, memory. Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that improve memory by acting on the endocannabinoid system and recover neural plasticity disrupted by prenatal alcohol exposure. The aim of this investigation is to analyze 1) if an omega-3 enriched diet ameliorates the long-term memory deficits caused by adolescent alcohol intake, and 2) to study the endocannabinoid-mediated mechanisms underlying the omega-3 effects in the hippocampus.
