Abstract
Introduction. When we think of pediatric research, we think of hospitals and about sophisticated studies, but research can be done in primary care pediatrics. An example of this are the three awards obtained by the Pediatrics in Primary Care in Gipuzkoa at the Congress of the Spanish Society of Pediatrics in Primary Care (Asociación Española de Pediatría-AEPap).
Methods: At AEPap, 180 communications were submitted to the Congress.the work presented by the residents are analyzed by the Teaching Team. After an initial review, 18 are selected, and after a second review, the winners are selected.
Results. Pediatric professionals from Gipuzkoa have won three awards and the topics were: Problems that arise in immigrant children after family reunification. (1), Commercial determinants of health (2) and management of the asthma process in primary care. (3)
The three themes point to three main concerns in primary care: (1) the impact of the social aspect on health and the reception of immigrant children, (2) the impact of the pharmaceutical industry on our daily work, and (3) asthma assessment processes in primary care consultation: how are they carried out and what is there to improve?
Conclusions. Pediatric research in primary care is concerned with the study of health processes and care processes relevant to the population.
There is a great opportunity for research in primary care. All patients pass through health centers and this facilitates contact with the people who will participate in the study. On the other hand, it is easy to create networksbetween health centers, which allows to increase the number of participants.
The aim of all these studies is to improve the social aspects of health and care processes.
