Abstract
The ageing of the population is a reality, and as a result the prevalence of pluripathology and polypharmacy is increasing. Polypharmacy is related to the risk of potentially inappropriateprescriptions (PIP), and these are also associated with the risk of undesirable effects, loss of adherence to treatments, pharmacological interactions, falls, functional decline, hospitalizations, and increased mortality.
In order to achieve the healthiest state as getting older, the review and deprescription of prescriptions in older people in a situation of fragility or at the gates of fragility are effective strategies to simplify therapeutic treatments, minimize risks and reduce PIPs. This text will explain some tools for frailty screening and strategies for deprescribing.
