Abstract

In this paper, the design, characterization and fabrication of a new optical interrogation system setup for fiber sensors of different nature is detailed. The achievement is a new step ahead in order to benefit from these type of fiber sensing characteristics, which permit with a simple fabrication process the design of ad-hoc sensors for physical parameter measurements. This fabrication simplicity, together with the high-sensitivity of these fibers, makes them ideal for several advanced technological applications. In this experiment, a basic laboratory setup is used to demonstrate the viability of the presented concept. For this purpose, two types of fiber sensors are used. First, a commercial FBG and second, an MCF fiber sensor, specifically designed in the laboratory.
