The state of conservation of current forest habitats is conditioned by years of human activity, leading to a significant loss of complexity and heterogeneity. Iturrigorri, a beech forest historically exploited for wood and charcoal until the 20th century, now serves as an experimental forest with conservation purposes. In this context, various treatments have been implemented to enhance biodiversity and improve the conservation status. The objective of the present work is to asses the conservation status of the forest and the treatments applied. The results highlight the poor conservation state of Iturrigorri, primarily due to the scarcity of deadwood resulting from past management. However, the treatments have led to the accumulation of large volumes of deadwood, both in the form of logs and snags. Additionally, numerous clearings have been created in the treated areas, expanding opportunities for other species to establish themselves. Thus, the treatments applied have proven to be valid to improve the conservation status of the forest.
