Necropsy of stranded cetaceans and the analysis of their organs give information about the health status of their populations. For this reason, histopathological examination is a critical tool to define the pathologies that could be related to the cause of death. Cetaceans have long survival times and are at the top of the trophic link, consequently they are often parasitised by a wide range of organisms. Therefore, they become potential objects of study as markers of cetacean’s health. The present work provides the first thorough histopathological description of a parasitic pneumonia in a stranded common dolphin in the Basque Coast.
