Abstract

Microplastics (MP) are ubiquitous in the marine environment, their wide distribution makes them available to aquatic organisms, accentuating the toxic risk due to their capacity to adsorb pollutants.Numerous studies on MP contamination in sediments have been carried out in recent years. However, there are no standardized methods for sampling, sample preparation and analysis. In this work, after reviewing different options available in the literature, we propose an analytical method to detect and characterize MPs in sediment samples. Checks its reliability an applied to the analysis of real samples with satisfactory results.
