Spouted bed technology is a gas-solid contact method particularly suitable for different thermochemical applications, as it allows handling particles of different sizes and properties. Furthermore, this technology allows great heat and mass transfer rates due to the high gas-solid contact. However, the scaling up of the spouted beds have some limitations that must be addressed by analysing their hydrodynamics, which allows a better understanding of the spouting behaviour. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to develop and validate an algorithm designed for tracking particles in the dilute region of the spouted bed. Accordingly, the three-dimensional displacement and velocity of the particles within the fountain have been analysed. To achieve this, an optical system consisting of two cameras has been installed to track particles and calculate particle velocity at several positions within the contactor.
