Can we consider fake news as a new phenomenon? Perhaps, if we approach it from the perspective of Journalism, by exploring the genealogy of disinformation. Similarly, from a Sociological point of view, if we recognize that in the age of information, a networked society has emerged, fundamentally altering the dynamics, timing, and spatial structures of communication. But not if we proceed to a political analysis of the phenomenon. In this study, from the viewpoint of Political Science, we will focus on the relationship between lies and politics, aiming to examine the underlying causes of the political use of lies. By rejecting a pure understanding of politics and embracing the autonomous logic of it, we will realise that political lies are not a new phenomenon. On the contrary, by transcending a simplistic dichotomy between truth and lies, we will analyse the phenomenon of fake news within a conflict-ridden logic of politics, envisioning politics as the art of acquiring and retaining power, and understanding lies as a tool for transforming reality.
