Climate change and pollution are major threats to human health and the environment, making the One Health approach essential. The HOBE project, promoted by the Plentzia Marine Station (PiEUPV/ EHU) and BC3, investigates the impacts of climate change and pollution on coastal pathogens and biodiversity. This study analysed the distribution and occurrence of contaminants of emerging concern in the Plentzia estuary using advanced analytical techniques. After a year-long sampling campaign, a clear correlation was observed between wastewater treatment plant effluents and estuarine waters, regardless of depth or salinity. Additionally, seasonal variations were detected. These findings highlight the need for continuous monitoring and advanced analytical methods to understand the impact of these contaminants on coastal ecosystems.
