Abstract

The Mugalur research project focuses on the border between two states (French and Spanish) in the Basque Country. From an anthropological perspective, it is based on seven participatory workshops, with the aim of asking the inhabitants of the border area what a border is and what it does. The 124 participants of the seven workshops have created maps and based on these representations of the border, they are encouraged to think of the border as a place of contradiction - constantly in motion, appearing and disappearing depending on the situation, opening or closing, and playing with memory, forgetting or being unable to forget the forms and nature of the border.
