Abstract

This study examines the impact of citizen participation through the Photovoice technique in improving the urban food environment. Results show that half of citizen recommendations were fulfilled in public policies, but compliance varied according to different factors. Actions related to the physical environment were the least implemented, while those addressing lifestyles and economic conditions were most addressed by public policies. This highlights the need for a multidisciplinary approach and continued collaboration between citizens, local authorities and health professionals to ensure that local needs are met and that public policies are effective in the long term
