Mendigatxaren grafemaren azterketa: ezkutuko hautua

Abstract

The 36 letters sent by Mariano Mendigatxa to Azkue have aroused interest in the field of Basque philology, but modern editions have erased the <ss> digraph that Mendigatxa used to represent the prepalatal in Basque. In this project, we have decided to delve deeper into the use of that grapheme, and, thanks to this, we will demonstrate that <ss> was not an isolated graphic choice of Mendigatxa. This work also defends the loyal edition of the original text. We have also pointed out the challenges that have made the analysis difficult and which are due to the nature of the historical corpus of the Basque language.
