Abstract

End of grade project at the Hematology Service.

Professor Jose Ramon Furundarena Salsamendi and Izaskun Zeberio Etxetxipia, at the Hematology Service at Donostia University Hospital, give the opportunity to lead two degree completion projects a year.

After the students of 5th year have asked us to do the end of grade work, we hold a meeting at the end of the course. If there are four but more requirements for the completion of the End of Grade Project in that year, we agree to do so by mutual agreement with four students on the basis of subject matter and interest.
If there was no agreement, we would choose by lot the four students.

José Ramón de Furundarena proposes topics  of hematology  laboratory  or of non-oncological hematology:  diagnostic, hemostasia and blood bank.
Izaskun Zeberio, on the other hand, addresses issues of oncological hematology: leukaemia, myelodisplastic syndrome, lymphoma, myeloma, hematopoietic transplant and cellular therapy projects.
The ways in which the end of grade is developed can be very varied and are agreed with the student: bibliographic reviews, study of cohorts of patients with hematological pathology at Donostia Hospital, revisions and proposals for clinical protocols,  information material for patients, etc.
A schedule is agreed at the beginning of the course and at least a monthly coordination meeting is held with each student.
In addition, different coordination meetings will be held to complete the work, depending on the work and the student.
The student is given the opportunity to present the results of the work at a congress of hematology and to the hematology service.
In addition to the result, we place great value on the path that the student takes in the process, on the attitude and creativity that he or she exposes.
